The Black City is a story that is still under construction while I have been concerned with the Post-Humans series, but it is a story that I intend to follow through with. This story has been a long time in the making. Before I was writing comics of novels I was drawing characters and events from this story. In fact this story is the accumulation of a group of drawing and maps that I drew when I was a teenager. When I used to play fantasy war games with my brother, cousin and friends I used models of characters I had invented and they developed backstories and personalities of their own. These events during the war games inspired the drawings and the drawings in turn inspired me to make models of some of the fantasy creatures that I had drawn. So toys inspired art and art inspired models and models inspired my book. In this fantasy world there is a large and relatively new island country. The race of man had not lived long on these shores, but the enormous black city in the country's south suggests that that may not be the case. For four generations the men that have made this land home have had a wary eye faced south. The skies over this shadowy part of the land grow darker and the poisonous ash that taints the surrounding lands gives the south an aspect of evil. Yet this poisonous place still houses lost treasures an loot for those who can rally enough men to brave the tortured heathlands and the damp cobblestone streets of this place. It is haunted by creatures that don't favour the light and men and women who have fled the justice of the north. But not many have seen the city's heart. The hollow pit that descends down into the dark earth. It is here where a threat is growing. The city is called Chun-Tar in the ancient elf tongue meaning The Black City and the land north of it is called Tar-Min. Tar-Min is the home of Captain Brack Wolfbane the overseer of the southern reaches and its people. though this area is mostly forest and farmland it is still home to some of the roughest and toughest men of the country. Descended from the companies of men who guarded the south against the The Black City so that colonists and traders could live comfortably in the northern three quarters of the country.
That sets up the landscape a little, but it isn't going to be all green with happy wise elves and knights in shining armour. This story is going to feel very fantasy outside of the black city, but most of the story will take place in its southern lands where thing will become very dark and violent.
